This project was started by Zondelia Lombard-Swartz in 2014 while she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. She sourced toiletries lovingly donated by friends and family, packaged it in pink boxes and bags and distributed it to breast cancer patients at Tygerberg Hospital. In celebrating the 6th year of this project, and in memory of Zonny who lost her fight to breast cancer on 8/09/2019, we would like to call on your support to enable us to extend the distribution of love boxes to include breast cancer patients at both Tygerberg & Paarl Hospitals
This year we’re doing things a bit differently …
In Zonny’s memory:
We will be donating Love Boxes to the breast cancer clinic and wards at Tygerberg Hospital & Paarl Hospital. We are hosting a range of virtual events to raise funds for the Tygerberg Hospital Breast Cancer Clinic & Cancer Ward
Our Ambassador is Nicole Brooks. Here is her story:
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, it is therefore important to be proactive and aware about the disease. I started my running journey in 2017 when I completed my first 10km race at the end of a couch to 10km programme. From then I progressed to complete many 10km and 21.km races and later only a few full marathons. This will be my second Cape Town marathon, but a very different 42.2km as it will be a virtual marathon and importantly, I will run this marathon for a bigger cause.
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2019 and had a mastectomy at the end of last year. She has fully recovered and is a breast cancer survivor. I will run the Cape Town marathon in honour of my mom and all the other women who have overcome this disease and survived.
I decided to support this amazing cause, the Zonny’s Love Box Project as October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.
